China Flag: The Red Field and the Guiding Stars of Revolution
The flag of the People's Republic of China, commonly known as the Five-star Red Flag, was adopted on October 1, 1949. It features a red field with one large yellow star in the top left corner, accompanied by four smaller stars in a semicircle.
Red symbolizes the communist revolution and the blood of those who died in the struggle. The large star represents the Communist Party, while the four smaller stars stand for the four social classes united under its leadership: the working class, peasantry, urban petite bourgeoisie, and national bourgeoisie.
The flag was designed by Zeng Liansong and selected from nearly 3,000 submissions. It became a defining image of the newly established communist state.
Today, the flag is an enduring emblem of the Chinese nation, flown prominently during National Day (October 1) and other state events.
