Comoros Flag: Unity Through Crescent and Color
The current flag of Comoros was adopted on January 7, 2002, and features four horizontal stripes of yellow, white, red, and blue. A green triangle on the hoist side contains a white crescent and four five-pointed stars arranged vertically.
Each stripe and star represents one of the four main islands of the Comoros archipelago: Mohéli (yellow), Mayotte (white), Anjouan (red), and Grande Comore (blue). Mayotte is still administered by France but is claimed by Comoros.
The green triangle and crescent symbolize Islam, the predominant religion of the country. The flag reflects the unity of the islands and the nation’s Islamic heritage, flown prominently on Independence Day (July 6) and other national events.
