Jordan Flag: The Hashemite Banner of Unity and Revolution

The flag of Jordan, adopted on April 18, 1928, is based on the flag of the Arab Revolt against Ottoman rule. It features three horizontal stripes of black, white, and green with a red chevron containing a seven-pointed white star.

The black represents the Abbasid Caliphate, white for the Umayyad Caliphate, and green for the Fatimid Caliphate. The red chevron symbolizes the Hashemite dynasty and Arab unity. The seven-pointed star stands for the seven verses of Al-Fatiha (the opening of the Quran) and the unity of the Arab people.

The flag reflects both Jordan’s Islamic heritage and its role in the Arab nationalist movement. It is flown on Independence Day and throughout the year at government buildings and public events.
